Chicago Fire Station

Fall 2008 Studio with Professor Susan Hickey

The corner of West Hubbard Street and North Wells is the location of a new fire station for the City of Chicago. As part of the 'steel' semester, the building was designed as two folded metal plates that create the enclosure. The smaller plate becomes the floor of the second level positioned under the outer shell. In order to allow more light in the ends of the panel become perforated as the building goes underneath the 'L' tracks that cross the corner of the site.
