Sonic Shields

Spring 2010 Studio with Professor Thomas McLeish

A study using parametric design for a cell phone booth to be located in Crown Hall on the IIT campus. Instead of making a single design, this semester was focused on parametric design allowing for thousands of possibilities. This design is made to react to the site allowing the booth to move around and automatically change forms to adapt to the each new site. My team designed the booth to protect the user from the most influential sounds in the building. We acknowledged the challenges that would be faced if the model we were generating were built and created sample parts that translated the digital model into reality. This resulted in modification to our computer model to better represent realistic designs.
